BEEF HEIFER SHOW:      Thursday, March 25, 2010, 6:30 p.m.

 

RECORD BOOKS:              Due by Monday, March 22, 2010, at

                                                Weigh-In  - Putnam County Fair

                                                East Palatka, or before 8:00 p.m.

 

 

ENTRY FEE:                       $5.00 Entry Fee (Non-refundable)

 

 

RULES & GUIDELINES:

 

  1. Beef heifers must be in the care of exhibitors and entry forms and entry fee must be turned in by 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010.  One of the livestock committee members may come to inspect that heifers are in the care of the exhibitor, some time between January 8, 2010 and March 22, 2010.

 

  1. Eligibility:  Open to all qualified Putnam County 4-H and FFA member (age 8, as of September 1, 2009, through high school senior).  They must show as 4-H or FFA members, but not in both divisions. If showing 4-H you must be a registered 4-H member by October 31, 2009.  Additionally, each 4-H club or FFA chapter may enter group owned animals.  All entry forms must be signed and approved by either Vo-Ag teacher or 4-H Agent.  LIMIT: ONE HEIFER PER EXHIBITOR PER CLASS.  Divisions:  Junior = 10 and under, Intermediate = 11-13, Senior = 14-high school senior as of 1st day of the fair.

 

  1. Grade of registered animals with as least 50% beef breeding may be shown.  Only females may be shown.

 

  1. Animals must be in acceptable condition, trained to be handled and led, and must dehorned.

 

  1. All heifers must have been born prior to September 30, 2009.  The maximum age of heifers exhibited will be 40 months.  Heifers 24 months of age and older must be certified bred by a veterinarian or have calf by their side at the fair. Animals will be placed in classes based upon age and will be judged on the Modified Danish System.

 

  1. There will be Showmanship and Record book contests for each age Division.  Complete record books must be turned in on Monday, March 22, at weigh-in  by 8:00 p.m.  Record books must be completed in the student’s own handwriting, NO TYPING.  Premium money and award will be forfeited if record books are not completed and turned in on time.   Exhibitor will also not be eligible to show.  Exhibitors with multiple entries should use one record book for all animals. Complete book on one entry.

 

  1. Exhibitors will be required to wear appropriate 4-H or FFA attire while exhibiting animal.  The following dress code and criteria will be used as a portion of the judging for showmanship. 

Dark trousers, dark jeans, or skirt (navy blue or black preferred)

White dress shirt or blouse with collar

Optional 4-H or FA emblem on shirt

Optional tie (4-H or FFA emblem on shirt

Optional Jacket

No hats, flip-flops, sandals, or tobacco products allowed.

 

  1. For public safety concerns, animals must be tied in the barn from 5:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. daily except for show purposes. Animals must also be in barn on Thursday morning before and during livestock judging contest.

 

  1. Each exhibitor is required to maintain clean and attractive quarters at all times.  A Herdsman award will be presented to the exhibitor keeping the cleanest and most attractive exhibit.  Judging will be from 5:00p.m.7:00p.m. Daily.

 

  1. Each exhibitor must furnish feed and properly care for his animal for the duration of The Putnam County Fair. Animals will not be released before 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, the closing day of the fair.

 

  1. The Putnam County Fair Authority assumes no liability for animals or exhibitors.   The Putnam County Fair Authority will not assume liability in case of injury or death.

 

  1. Use the official Putnam County Fair record book.  Do not deface, change the page sequence, remove any pages, or cut/paste sections of the book.  Additional pages to expand on sections are not acceptable.

 

  1. The exhibitor of any animal determined to have used unethical treatment or administered illegal drugs to achieve better appearance or performance in the showing forfeit rights to the prize money associated with the animal.  The exhibitor also exonerates the Putnam County Fair Authority from any liability associated with unethical or unlawful practices. Participation in future livestock events may be denied.

 

  1. There will be a $5.00 replacement cost for record books payable to the Putnam County Fair.

 

  1.  HOME GROWN HEIFER AWARD will be presented to the exhibitor of the highest placing heifer that was calved on that exhibitor’s home farm (or chapter farm for chapter heifers).  Parents of the exhibitor, or exhibitors, must be actively involved in operation through ownership of the dam of the steer at the time of calving to be considered homegrown.

 

  1. Livestock committee reserves the right to split any class with excessive entries or if the need arises to combine classes with to few entries.

The participant who receives the largest sum of premium money will receive an appropriate belt buckle from the Putnam County Fair Authority, Inc.  In case of a tie, the tied participant with the best Record Book will be the winner.
