RULES & REGULATIONS:

 

  1. All market swine will be consigned to slaughter immediately following the sale.

 

  1. Animals must be owned, ear tagged and entered on an official entry form by 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010, with a $20.00 entry fee..  This completed form must be in the Putnam County Fair Office no later than the above date.  Vocational agricultural teachers, 4-H leaders/agent or the Fair Livestock Committee must ear tag your pig and certify that animals have been owned the required length of time.

 

  1.  Eligibility:  Open to all qualified Putnam County 4-H and FFA members ( age 8, as of September 1, 2009 through high school senior).  They must show as 4-H or FFA members, but not in both divisions. If showing 4-H you must be a registered 4-H member by October 31, 2009.  Additionally, each 4-H club or FFA chapter may enter group owned animals.  All entry forms must be signed and approved by either Vo-Ag teacher or 4-H Agent.  Divisions:  Junior = 10 and under, Intermediate = 11-13, and Senior = 14 – high school senior as of 1st day of the fair.

 

  1. A showmanship award will be given to the top three showmen.  A herdsman award will be presented to the top herdsman.  Record books are required and must be turned in on Monday, March 22, 2010, at weigh-in or by 8:00 p.m.  If record books are not completed and submitted on time, participants will not receive any awards or premium money.  Participants will also not be eligible to show.  Record books MUST BE in the student’s own handwriting – NO TYPING.  Record books not meeting the minimum requirements as listed in the judges score sheet shall be considered incomplete and awards and premium money will be forfeited.

 

  1. Each exhibitor will be allowed to ear tag two pigs at the beginning of the project, but the exhibitor may only exhibit one pig at the fair.  Exhibitors living in same household my co-tag their 2nd hog.

 

  1. Animals must weigh between 240 lbs. and 290 lbs. at the official weigh-in at the Putnam County Fairgrounds on March 22, 2010 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

 

  1. Animals must grade a minimum of US No. 2 quality grade.

 

  1. All animals not meeting the weight or quality grade requirements must be removed from the fairgrounds before 6:00 p.m. on March 22  Participants who animals are disqualified based on weight and grade may complete a record book for the project and compete for record book awards

 

  1. Animals may not be allowed to be exhibited in competition if they cannot be properly handled or directed into the show or sale ring by the exhibitor.

 

  1. All exhibitors must wear appropriate 4-H or FFA attire when showing or selling animals. Exhibitors must be present for both the show and sale.  The following dress code and criteria will be used as a portion of the judging for showmanship.

                        Dark Trousers, Dark Jeans or Skirt (navy blue or black preferred)

                        White Dress Shirt or Blouse with Collar

                        Optional 4-H or FFA emblem on shirt

                        Optional tie (4-H or FFA colors)

                        Optional Jacket

                        No Hats, Flip-flops, sandals, or tobacco products allowed.

 

  1. All animals will be divided into classes’ prior to the show.  The top five placings will be determined in each class.  A Division Champion and Reserve Division Champion will be selected from three (3) weight categories.  A Grand and Reserve Champion will then be selected from the overall show. 

LIGHT WEIGHT DIVISION           240 lbs-256 lbs.

MEDIUM WEIGHT DIVISION      257 lbs-273 lbs.

HEAVY WEIGHT DIVISION         274 lbs-290 lbs.

 

  1. All animals must be washed and clean prior to arrival at the fair grounds.  Oil and powder is prohibited on hogs.  If used, you will be disqualified from the showmanship contest.  NO CLIPPING OF HOG AT THE FAIRGROUNDS.

 

  1. Exhibitors must provide feed pan.  The fair will provide feed, and feed swine each day before 7 a.m., swine will be feed again at 4:00 p.m. each day exhibitors must sign up to help feed at least one day. If exhibitor wants to feed his/her swine this must be done with everyone else. Feeding will not start until barn management is there.

 

  1. All exhibitors are responsible for the daily cleaning (wet shaving and manure) and keeping their pen clean. Manure and wet shavings are to be placed in designated areas only. No rakes pitch forks, wheel barrows, etc. are to be left in walkways. All walkways are the responsibility of every exhibitor and we must work together to keep our area clean, safe and attractive to the public. KEEPING YOUR PEN CLEAN IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Pens will be checked daily, Failure to clean pen will result in a $25.00 fine for each time.

 

  1. The Sale Order will be:  Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, 1st place in each class, 2nd place in each class, 3rd place in each class, 4th place in each class, 5th Place in each class.  All others randomly determined. The Putnam County Fair Authority reserves the Right to limit the number of animals exhibited and/or auctioned.

 

  1. There will be no weight shrink on animals for sale purposes.

 

  1. Seven percent (7%) of each exhibitor’s sale price will be deducted by the Putnam County Fair Authority for a “THANK YOU” ad in the newspaper and other sale costs.

 

  1. “Add-on” money will be accepted by the Putnam County Fair Authority.  Add-on must be calculated per pound.

 

  1. The Putnam County Fair Authority assumes no liability for animals, exhibitors or property.

 

  1. Use the official Putnam County Fair Record book.  Do not deface, change the page Sequence, remove any pages, or cut and paste sections of the book.  Additional pages to expand on sections are NOT acceptable.

 

  1. The exhibitor of any animal determined too have used unethical treatment or administered illegal drugs to achieve better appearance or performance in the showing forfeits rights to the sale price and prize money associated with the animal.  The exhibitor also exonerates the Putnam County Fair Authority from any liability associated with unethical or unlawful practices. Participation in future livestock events may be denied.

 

  1. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to send thank you letter(s) to their buyer(s).

 

  1. There will be a $5.00 replacement cost for record books payable to the Putnam Fair.

The participant who receives the largest sum of premium money will receive an appropriate trophy from the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.  In case of a tie, the tied participant with best Record book will be the winner
